What we will cover

STIHL maintains a rolling new-products area covering categories including chainsaws, hedge trimmers, grass trimmers and robotic mowers. Rather than simply repeating launch claims, the KS Knowledge Hub will look at new machines from the point of view of actual garden-maintenance work.

The questions that matter

• Is it meaningfully lighter or easier to use?
• How long does a battery realistically last in working conditions?
• Are batteries compatible with tools already owned?
• What is the vibration level and balance like?
• How easy is it to service and obtain parts?
• Does the extra cost save enough time to justify it?

Petrol versus battery

Battery tools continue to improve, especially where noise, fumes, vibration and frequent starting matter. Petrol still has advantages for some heavy or prolonged tasks. The useful answer depends on the job rather than loyalty to one power source.
